Thats right the bow section is gone unno: and the tank grew a little. I still have the Minibow Girls so can I continue posting with you all

Well a young lady friend of mine pointed out the fact that a see through tank would look much better then the Minibow since the tank sits on a high divider counter between the living room and kitchen. After considering this for a few days I did have to agree with her and since the equipment would basically be the same all I would need to do was come up with a different tank.

So I switched the Minibow out for a 20 long. Now I am not normally fond of changes especially when swapping out something I do love but after making the swap I am very pleased with the results.

New setup:

20L viewable from 3 sides
AquaClear 70/300
Surface skimmer attachment
Powersweep 214
100 watt heater
temp display
Purigen
150 HQI clipon pendant
small custom piece to hide the equipment
Southdown sand
LR

I bow down to the Minibow people please spare my life

Charles

A lot easier on the eyes than a scuba diver next to a treasure chest with bubbles coming out of it!

Only because I like you...your pitiful (non-minibow having) life will be spared. BTW, interesting aquascaping I kinda' like it.

The aquascaping is a very open setup with minimal pieces -- I plan on glueing frags directly to the main pieces when possible. Looking down at it from above it is basically 2 large flat shelf pieces . When I get a chance I will turn everything off and post a birds eye view pic.

So with my tax return I bought a few pieces of equipmet and what not so here goes.

SunPod 150 HQI 14,000K bulb w/ LED's
Koralia Nano powerhead
JBJ Auto Topoff w/ microJet for pump.
Custom Built ENd Unit Cover to hide equipment.

This is the 1st 14,000k bulb I have owned and love the color. It is a crisp bright bulb with a shade of blue, perfect for tanks that only have a metal halide with no actinic suppliments.

In double ended 150w HQI bulbs

Current PowerPaq Series and
Coralife are 14,000k bulbs

Also Aqualine Buschke makes a 13,000k and
XM makes a 15,000k bulb

There maybe others but these are the ones listed in the DR. Foster Smith catalog

Charles

P.S. The picture makes the bulb look very white in reality the bulb looks a bit blue'r

Christmas in February

It started out by taking a 2 1/2 hour drive to a mail order business where I know the owner from reef tanks past. I bought a 20,000k bulb to replace the 14,000k bulb. With only 12" of tank depth and the top rock being in only 5" of water depth the 14,000k bulb was just way to intense. The 20,000k is not as intense and with more light towards the blue end of the spectrum it should color the corals better and produce less nuisance algae especially without actinics.

The owner (of mail order business) had previously told me, if I came when he was about to closeup I could follow him home and he would load me up with a bunch of frags and of course that is what I did

I ended up with 13 frags/corals. It will take me a few days to really figure out exactly what i got but here is a quick run down:

Brown Digitata --- small frag
Purple Digitata --- small frag
Orange Capricornis --- small coral 2" x 2"
Pocillapora ?? --- very small coral with awesome branching structure
Branching Euphyllia (possibly torch??) --- medium sized coral with 6 medium sized heads
star polyps -- 2 different varieties (coloring) -- one tiny piece and one medium piece
zoo's --- 2 tiny pieces
LR --- sm piece with a bunch of zoo's spread on it and also a few small patches of an encrusting sps.
polyp rock of some sort --- decent size piece.
Pom Pom Xenia -- small patch

In a few days when everything comes out and starts kickin butt I will post some pics. I got home late and stayed up till 2:00 am getting everything in place. This morning I woke up a very happy reef'r.

Thank you Sammy from Aquabuys

Charles

Hey kyroguy

BIG UPDATE: I took the tank down a couple of months ago.

BUT: I am starting a new project soon and it will have a bow front I just can't stay away from the bow front tanks.

Will post a build thread as the project comes together

Great to hear that you are still in the game! Speaking of projects, any interest in cracking the book of nano again. I would love to see how far you guys got and help finish it up.

Not sure of the book of nano --- we really didn't get that far --- not even sure if I could find that on my computer anymore.

Look for it if you can. Was some of it locked in this forum? I would like to see anything you have if possible. I would like to finish it and make it web based.

Ok I found all the book of nano stuff -- it's here in the forums.

My PM is not working for some reason.

Send me a PM with a working e-mail and I'll send you the forum password.
